If you’ve been in Hermanus recently, you might have seen these colorful buses around town.
Ever wondered what they do? We’ve gone this weekend to find out more on what they are all about.
We crossed the road from the Auberge to find the ticket box for the bus. We arranged our tickets, met our guide and took a short walk and hopped on the bus.
First stop was Gearings Point. Great spot for whale watching and a hop skip and a jump from Auberge Burgundy Guesthouse. Look out for the artworks too.
Next we took the coastal drive towards the New Harbour. This is a working harbour, but I’ll leave it to their knowledgeable guides to explain more on that.
From the New Harbour it was on to Zwelihle, our local township. The atmosphere in this community is incredible and specially on a Saturday, you see the braais (BBQ) going everywhere. Here’s a short video clip to give you an idea.
Next up was Rotary way. Here they will tell you more about our indigenous fauna and flora while you get to enjoy the incredible view.
From here we set off to Grotto beach, taking a detour past the Golf Estate and Fernkloof Nature Reserve. We also made a quick stop to spot a whale before we made our last stop at the blue flag beach (Grotto beach). From here we head back to the Old Harbour.
Personally I was very impressed with how knowledgeable the guides where and how friendly all the staff were. Mostly I loved how this tour showed us how Hermanus is more than just whales, but a natural and culture rich community.
PS this is a great way to orientate yourself around town.
